European Parliament The European Parliament (which is one of the legislative parts of the EU) is located in Strasbourg. It represents the EU-citizens and is directly elected by them since 1979 every five years. It has 732 members from all 25 EU countries.
1. Includes Gibraltar, but not any other BOT or Crown dependency
The European Parliament has three main tasks: 1: Guarantee the democratic legitimacy of European law. 2: Control in particular over the European Commission and ability to agree or to disagree to nomination of commissioners. It also has the rigth to reprove the Commission as a whole. 3: Observation of the EU budget together with the Council of the European Union and therefore possibility to influence EU spending.
